Mission
Arthritis India (MAI) is a voluntary support group for
patients of arthritis and rheumatism, established since
2000. MAI has been formed
by an educated and philanthropic group of people
who are suffering from chronic arthritis and now wish
to help the community fight these ailments. The head
office of MAI is located in the Center for Rheumatic
Diseases, Pune. MAI has been registered as a Trust and
a Society. MAI is also one of the founder members of
the Bone and Joint Decade (BJD) - India: National Action
Network (www.bjdindia.org),
an umbrella organisation of the WHO endorsed Bone and
Joint Decade, which aims to spread awareness on musculoskeletal
problems within the community and generate more information
on treatment and control of bone and joint diseases.
The
main goal of MAI is to provide proper and scientific
information and guidance about all aspects of arthritis
and related problems. To fulfil this goal MAI is publishing
quarterly newsletters
containing health related articles and organising public
awareness meetings. Each MAI newsletter is the source
of knowledge on various types of musculoskeletal pains,
bone and joint problems, types of exercises, guidelines
on prevention / control. Public awareness meeting is
held during the BJD Activity Week 12 - 20 October every
year during which the annual
health magazine is inaugurated by MAI. Various health
talks by well known doctors from the field of Orthopedics,
Rheumatology and other specialities are arranged during
this program. The articles in the newsletters and the
annual health magazines are written by experienced and
eminent medical specialists.
MAI membership
has crossed over 500 including doctors. MAI membership
is open to all. Its annual membership fee is Rs.100/-
and can be sent in the form of cash/cheque/Demand Draft
in favour of ‘Mission Arthritis India’ payable
at Pune. |
